REGISTRUM

VAT registration certificate in Liechtenstein

A tax / VAT registration status confirms whether a Liechtenstein entity holds an active VAT registration on the date of issue. It does not confirm turnover, filing history or good standing. REGISTRUM orders the current extract from the responsible authority and states the limit before any fee is agreed.

What this document shows

A Liechtenstein tax / VAT registration status is a short extract, not a full filing history. It states a small number of facts as they stand on the day it is produced.

Where an entity has never registered for VAT, the extract says so directly. It does not return a blank page or an error. A cancelled registration is shown as cancelled, not simply removed from the record. The wording used for each status is set by the authority, not by REGISTRUM.

Some fields vary by case. An entity registered under a group arrangement may carry a different reference from the one used in day-to-day invoicing. Where this applies, the extract reflects whatever the authority's own system holds – REGISTRUM does not reconcile the two.

For a corporate secretary preparing a registrar filing, this is usually the single fact required: is the counterparty currently VAT-registered, yes or no. A certified Liechtenstein extract answers that question directly, without additional commentary.

The extract is issued as a standalone Liechtenstein company document. It is not bundled with a certificate of incorporation or a register excerpt covering directors and shareholders. Each of those is ordered separately.

The document is typically requested alongside a tax / vat registration status Liechtenstein check as part of a wider onboarding file, sitting next to bank account opening forms or supplier due diligence packs. It stands on its own as evidence of one fact, not as a substitute for the wider file. Nothing else on the page changes that scope.

What it does not show

A VAT registration status is narrow by design. It answers one question and nothing beside it.

It does not show turnover, the dates of past VAT filings, or whether any return is overdue. That detail sits inside the tax authority's own case file, not on a public-facing status extract. It is not reproduced here under the law in force in Liechtenstein, and REGISTRUM does not request it as part of this order.

It does not show the entity's directors, shareholders or share capital. That belongs to the commercial register, not the tax register. It is ordered separately as a certificate of incorporation.

It does not confirm good standing, solvency, or that the entity is free of pending proceedings. A VAT status extract and a good-standing certificate answer different questions. The two are not interchangeable.

Historic registration dates are a known gap. Where an entity registered and later re-registered under a new number, the current extract may not show the earlier one. This gap is covered in more detail in our note on the historic records gap in tax registers.

The access regime for this register is being confirmed against the primary source. Until that confirmation is complete, REGISTRUM states this position rather than a specific rule about who may request the extract.

How it is obtained

The extract is requested from the tax authority responsible for VAT registration in Liechtenstein. The Liechtenstein VAT registration status extract itself is limited to that single confirmation. The official fee and the standard turnaround are being confirmed against the primary source. REGISTRUM will not publish either as a promise until that check is complete. REGISTRUM contacts the authority directly, in the applicant's name where the authority allows this, or through a licensed registered agent in the jurisdiction where it does not.

Turnaround for a status extract of this kind is usually short once the request is confirmed, because the underlying check is a single lookup rather than a compiled history. REGISTRUM states a specific number of working days once the entity and the register have been matched, not before.

Language of issue follows Liechtenstein's own practice. German is the working language of its public registers. An English translation is available as a separate certified-translation add-on rather than included as standard.

Availability to an applicant based outside Liechtenstein is part of the same confirmation. Where the route is open to a foreign applicant, no local electronic signature is normally needed for a status extract of this kind. Whether a Liechtenstein national identifier is required from the applicant is part of the same confirmation. REGISTRUM checks this point case by case and reports back before taking payment.

Reuse is per document only. Each extract is licensed for the specific filing it is ordered for. A second use – a different filing, a different counterparty – calls for a fresh copy, not a photocopy of the first.

For a registrar filing, the route matters more than the wording of the certificate itself. A document obtained through the correct channel, from the correct authority, carries weight that a photocopy or a self-printed extract does not.

Price and timeline

Price on request. REGISTRUM confirms the fee for this jurisdiction and this document before any payment is taken, once the entity and the required date are known.

Apostille, certified translation, courier delivery and a rush service are available as add-ons on this order. Each is added to the standard route, not bundled into it.

If the document does not exist in this jurisdiction or cannot be obtained for you, we say so before you pay and we do not take the order.

How long does a tax / vat registration status from Liechtenstein take?

The standard turnaround is confirmed for each order once the entity and the jurisdiction are known. The underlying register's process is still being checked against the primary source. REGISTRUM states the current estimate before you place the order, not after.

Will a Liechtenstein document be accepted abroad without an apostille?

Acceptance is decided by the receiving authority abroad, not by REGISTRUM. Where an apostille or legalisation is required for the destination, it can be added to the order. REGISTRUM confirms whether that step applies to your case before the order is placed, rather than assuming it either way.

What does a tax / vat registration status in Liechtenstein not show?

It does not show turnover, filing history, directors, shareholders or good standing. It confirms one fact – the current VAT registration status – on the date it is issued. Anything beyond that sits in a separate register or a separate document, ordered on its own terms.

Can I order this without a representative based in Liechtenstein?

In most cases, yes. REGISTRUM handles the local step through a licensed registered agent in the jurisdiction where one is needed. You do not need your own representative on the ground. You give us the entity details and the date you need the document by.

Does the extract include the entity's VAT identification number?

Where one has been issued, yes. Where the entity has never registered for VAT, the extract states that directly instead of a number. The format of the number itself is set by the authority, not by REGISTRUM.

To order this document, state the entity, the jurisdiction and the date you need it by; we confirm availability and the fee before you pay.

REGISTRUM obtains and delivers official records issued by public registers and licensed registered agents. This page describes what those records contain and how they are obtained. It is not advice on the legal effect of any record. To order, write to info@registrumfirm.com.
