REGISTRUM

Company extract in Guernsey – official record

A company extract – in Guernsey issued as registered particulars – states what the register holds on a company today. It gives the registered name, number and status at the point of issue. The exact field set and access route for Guernsey are being confirmed against the primary source; REGISTRUM confirms availability and the fee before any order is placed.

What this document shows

A company extract is a snapshot, not a file. It records what the register holds at the moment the request is made, not the company's history and not an assessment of it.

Records of this class typically carry a labelled set of fields: the registered name, a registration number, a current status – active, dissolved, struck off – the date of incorporation, and the address of the registered office. Some registers add the legal form as a separate field; some add the date the particulars were last confirmed by the company itself.

Which of these fields a Guernsey company extract carries, in what sequence and under what heading, is being confirmed against the primary source. REGISTRUM does not describe the layout from memory, and it does not carry over a field list used for a neighbouring jurisdiction on the assumption that Channel Islands registers behave alike.

Officer and shareholder detail, where a register shows it at all, is treated as a separate question from the bare extract; a register can show a company's status without showing who runs it. Guernsey's practice on this particular point sits under the same verification as the rest of the record, and is stated here only once it has been checked.

A related question – whether the extract or a set of financial statements is the right document for a given check – is addressed on its own page, since the two answer different questions about the same company.

What stays constant, wherever a company extract / registered particulars for Guernsey is eventually confirmed to be issued, is the purpose: a statement of what the register shows on the day it is pulled, and nothing beyond that day.

What it does not show

A company extract answers one question – what does the register hold now – and stops there. It does not show beneficial ownership, security interests, tax status or a history of litigation.

Charges over a company's assets, where they are recorded at all, generally sit in a separate charges register. Whether Guernsey maintains an equivalent register, and whether it is open to a foreign applicant, is being confirmed against the primary source before REGISTRUM states it either way.

The same caution applies to insolvency: a bare status flag is one thing, a full account of administration or liquidation proceedings is another, and the latter, where it exists, sits with the court or the official receiver rather than with the companies register.

Certification and an apostille are a separate step from the extract itself, not a feature of it. Whether a Guernsey company document is issued in certified form as standard, or whether certification has to be requested on top of the base extract, has not yet been confirmed; a general note on jurisdictions where no certified form is available is linked below.

None of this makes the extract unreliable. That narrower scope is deliberate, not a gap in service. It means the extract is one document among several, and each of the others answers a narrower question than a reader unfamiliar with the register might expect it to.

How it is obtained

The extract is requested from the companies register that holds Guernsey's incorporated entities. The exact office, and the fee it charges, are being confirmed against the primary source; REGISTRUM does not state either from memory or from a rate card used for another jurisdiction.

What is fixed is the process REGISTRUM follows regardless of the answer: the request goes to the register, directly or through a licensed registered agent in the jurisdiction where the register requires one, the fee and turnaround are checked at that point, and the reader is told both figures before paying anything.

Guernsey company documents are ordinarily issued in English, which removes one layer of translation risk that applies to some other jurisdictions covered in this Registry.

Whether a foreign applicant can request a company extract / registered particulars for Guernsey directly, or must route the request through a locally registered agent, is part of what is under verification. REGISTRUM applies whichever route the register actually requires, rather than assuming the more convenient one and correcting the order afterwards.

Turnaround is the same story as the fee: a specific number of working days cannot yet be published as confirmed for this jurisdiction, and REGISTRUM would rather state a range once verified than commit to a figure and miss it. None of this is unusual for a smaller offshore register; it simply means the route is confirmed case by case rather than published as a fixed table.

Reuse of the extract is limited to the matter for which it was ordered – per document, not as a standing reference the reader can recirculate for a different transaction later.

A certified Guernsey extract, where certification is confirmed to be available, and an apostille on top of it, are both treated as add-on steps rather than as part of the base document.

Price and delivery

Price on request: the fee is confirmed before the order is placed, not published as a fixed figure, and Guernsey's own charge is still being verified against the primary source. An apostille, a certified translation, courier delivery and a rush service can each be added; the order route above sets out what each adds to the timeline once confirmed. If the document cannot be obtained for you, or does not exist in this form, REGISTRUM says so before payment and does not take the order.

How long does a company extract / registered particulars from Guernsey take?

The confirmed turnaround depends on the route the register actually requires, which is under verification for Guernsey. REGISTRUM checks the current turnaround at the point of order and states it before payment, rather than publishing a fixed number of days that may not hold for every request.

Will a Guernsey document be accepted abroad without an apostille?

That depends on the receiving authority, not on REGISTRUM. An apostille confirms the origin of a signature and seal; it does not compel any foreign body to accept the document. Whether this extract is apostilled as a matter of course, or only on request, is being confirmed against the primary source before REGISTRUM states either.

What does a company extract / registered particulars in Guernsey not show?

It does not show beneficial ownership, charges over company assets, tax status or litigation history. Those sit in separate registers or with the courts, and whether the Guernsey equivalents are open to a foreign applicant is being confirmed. The extract states only what the companies register itself holds on the day it is issued.

Is a company extract the same as a certificate of good standing?

No. A certificate of good standing is a statement that a company remains in compliance with filing obligations; an extract is a record of the fields the register holds. The two can overlap in content but they answer different questions, and a reader who needs one should not assume the other covers it.

Can REGISTRUM add certified translation or courier delivery to a Guernsey order?

Yes. Certified translation, an apostille, courier delivery and a rush service are all available as add-ons to this order, each confirmed with its own timeline once the base extract has been verified. They are added at the reader's request, not by default, and each is priced once the underlying order is confirmed.

To order this record, state the entity, the jurisdiction and the date you need it by; REGISTRUM confirms availability and the fee before you pay. For a step-by-step route to obtain the extract yourself, the self-service guide to a Guernsey company extract sets out the same process without placing an order.

If the document does not exist in this jurisdiction, or cannot be obtained for you, we say so before you pay and we do not take the order.

REGISTRUM obtains and delivers official records issued by public registers and licensed registered agents. This page describes what those records contain and how they are obtained. It is not advice on the legal effect of any record. To order, write to info@registrumfirm.com.
